I can't say enough about Ion and his work, nor recommend him highly enough. I have owned and played my Conn 8D for over 40 years, and finally decided it was time to get a bell conversion (with lacquer removal) and sent it to Ion -- for one, because he makes it so easy to ship with the "Balu-to-go box" (just do it). I have had some minor repair work done in the past, but after that kind of time it is no surprise that Ion discovered a number of other issues that needed addressing -- loss of compression through ill-fitting slides and rotors; severe corrosion of the handguard and leadpipe; dents and bruises, etc. I OK'ed this once-in-a-lifetime overhaul and I could not be happier with the results -- in my view it looks and plays like a dream. I was honestly surprised at the difference -- the horn is notably more resonant and responsive. Throughout, Ion was great, sending texts and videos of the problems and progress, and in constant communication, making me feel like I was his only customer. He even threw in a couple of freebie extras because of the extra cost and time -- although it was totally unnecessary, it showed how much he values each client and their instrument, whether you are a serious amateur, like myself, or professional. Thank you again, Ion -- I will not hesitate to recommend you to anyone considering routine or serious work done on their horn.

Ion is great horn mechanic! His skill and craftsmanship are second to none. I trust Ion for his advice and knowledge. He is always good to to keep his word and offers customers service far exceeding anyone in the business. I am to have met him, although via zoom, you can feel his passion for his craft. Highly recommended for all your horn needs. 6 stars if they had that!

Amazing. Simply amazing, did a screw bell conversion, made my rotor compression perfect again, put on an adjustable pinkie ring, and gave my horn valve caps a makeover, amazing service, amazing person to talk to. He’s helped me with my playing since I mentioned having problems with my mouthpiece. 11/10!!

You can trust Balu Music with any, and all, service on your Horn. I traveled two hours to Chicago and left the owner (Ion) my "Post WWII" Alexander 103 to be cleaned, for removal of some dents on the bell branch (I didn't do it, I swear!), tighten some loose slides, repair any loose supports, and replace the lead pipe - a lot of service. Ion told me that he could get the job done before the end of the week. This surprised me because all of the other times I have had service on my Horns, I waited between three weeks to two and a half months to completion. Ion kept close contact with me via text and sent 36 images and videos of before, during, and after repairs. He found and repaired several other problems and even stayed within his $$ estimate. He went so far and above expectations that I left him a cash tip. I wished that I could have afforded more. In my view Balu Music is first rate!

The most amazing experience. I had very sluggish valves on my Scherzer 8111 piccolo trumpet. Ion worked his magic quickly and incredibly well. Valves are lightning quick now. Will definitely return, and highly recommend!!
