My 15-year-old son and I visited Paul Becker at Carl Becker and Son about three weeks ago to look for a new violin and bow for my son. When we first met Paul, he listened to my son play his violin and recommended a violin along with a matching bow. It seems Paul quickly identified my son's character and playing style. My son fell in love with the new violin and decided to use it for his concerto competition, which took place last Saturday (January 11, 2025). It was a risky decision, but the beautiful sound produced by the new violin and bow made it worth the risk. The decision paid off—my son won the competition! As a soloist, my son will perform the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 with the orchestra this April. We are deeply grateful to Paul. I believe we've found a luthier for my son to work with for a lifetime.

His clients include many of the most noted violinists and cellist. On top of that, he is friendly, helpful, gracious, and encouraging to young, rising musicians! His shop is on Michigan Avenue in the Fine Arts Building across from Congress Plaza. It is within easy walking distance from several hotels.

He is a world renowned violin maker, yet he is down to earth and concerned for each person who visits his shop. Carl and Tim worked above that which would be expected to help us get the right violin for my daughter. We are grateful for their efforts and expertise that reveal why people shop here.
