Walking into the shop felt like the bookstore from The Never Ending Story, but with guitars. The folks there are knowledgeable and attentive, and I was surprised and relieved at their welcoming attitude towards this hillbilly with a 2 year old in company. My wife, son, and myself were driving up from central Illinois to meet with some old friends for a jam night reunion and thought it would be a good idea to get a new guitar to mark the memory. We searched market place half the drive and saw the one. Finding out in all of Chicago it was only 4 blocks away from our friends. Thanks for everything Tommy's, and the advice on purchasing a stand, rather than a case (which would have for sure been more expensive), was a much appreciated bit of wisdom. Sep 30, 2023 · Robert ConwayCame in after failing hard at swapping my pickups. They did a great job cleaning up the mess I made and installing the pickups correctly. Guitar sounds great. Store seemed to have a fun collection of guitars. Would be a great place to grab a first guitar or something truly unique.

The first time as I walked through the door several of the staff were talking about an encounter they had with a woman, “this broad…” and kept it up when they saw me come in as if they don’t care about their female customers, no apology or anything. That day I dropped off my guitar for a setup, picked it up, the work was fine-THAT DAY. Brought in a different guitar for a setup and one staff member immediately asked how much I paid for it. How classy. When I came to retrieve it a few days later that same staff member and another person were acting very tongue in cheek, when I tried out the guitar later that day at home it wouldn’t play smoothly so I took it to “real professionals”. The guy looked at it and in seconds told me there was a lot wrong with it. So now I have to pay for a whole new setup and plus I’m out the $50 from Tommy’s. Never again Tommy, this broad will go to real professionals from now on.

Have had them work on a few guitars and more recently had them save my tele deluxe from some shoddy repair work that had been done before. They installed some new WRHBs that brought my tele deluxe back to life and have made it hard to put down. Also provided great advice and insight. The store always has some interesting things to tinker with and a stellar guitar collection.
Jan 03, 2025 · Bodie AgadaThis is one of the most interesting guitar shops I've been in in awhile. They've got lefty guitars, 7-string guitars, bass guitars, SITARS, you name it! I bought a Schecter from them and it plays great. I didn't have time to check it out, but I saw in passing a brass section that they had downstairs as well! SO MANY INSTRUMENTS! 10/10, would definitely recommend to anyone interested in buying a guitar in Chicago.
