Apr 04, 2014 · Capt PatrickUnhelpful at best, verbally abusive at worst. I brought in my Vox AC10C1 for some warranty repairs last week. Jill spent the entire time warning me about how unreliable Korg is (I'm seeing a pattern with Robert M's review) and hedging her bets on what time frame I'd be looking at. I think the last word was two to six weeks. They called me back as I was on my way home to say that it was actually no longer under warranty. Turns out the amp was covered under Sweetwater's warranty but not Korg's. Fair enough - I hadn't realized they were separate. I apologized several times for the mixup and said I'd talk to Sweetwater and see what my options were. I called my rep at Sweetwater soon after and he was accommodating and helpful as always. He said they can, on a case-by-case basis, foot the bill for repairs at local shops since they know that shipping a 40lb. amp out-of-state is quite a hassle. All they needed was a quote from the shop and we'd be good to go. Great! I thought, having no idea how little Midtown wanted my business. So I emailed Jill at Midtown saying the same: if you can send me a quote, I'll forward it to Sweetwater, and they'll take care of everything. She sends back a terse response saying they don't give quotes and they don't bill third parties, and finished off by insisting that I either just have them do the repair out-of-pocket or pick up my amp "as soon as possible". I was dumbstruck at how unfriendly she suddenly was and replied saying I'd pick my amp up tomorrow. She responded with their hours. No message, just copied-and-pasted hours. I've never encountered someone so resentful of their customers before. So I went in today to pick up the amp that had been so inconveniencing them. I walked in, said I was here for my amp, and while I was signing for my amp she accused me of being "hostile". I tried to explain the fact that they had lost my business and any chance of a good review/recommendation due to obstructive policies I could see no reason for. She interrupted me constantly, was unbelievably rude and all she had to say was that I "obviously don't know anything" and am "entitled", and she finished off by just walking away saying "f***ing millennials". Anyway, Midtown is a stain on the music industry and I'd recommend going literally anywhere else up to and including a random back alley. The only reason I went to them in the first place is they were ostensibly a certified Korg dealer, although if I worked for Korg I'd endeavor to distance myself from them as much as possible. Check out Rock & Roll Vintage in Lincoln Square or Chicago Music Exchange if you'd like to deal with actual humans. I've had good experiences at both places. And Sweetwater was a hero throughout this whole thing - can't recommend them enough.
Jan 20, 2017 · M LWorst service ever!!! Avoid like the plague!. I took in a keyboard to replace a broken USB jack. Desolder off the board, replace the $2 part. 4 days after dropoff they call back with a ridiculous half-assed solution to permanently leave a 12 foot usb cable dangling out the back! When I asked if they could fix it properly, they said "not for at least 3 weeks". So if I want it back they're going to charge $54 for taking out a dozen screws. The broken jack was completely visible externally, so there was no need to take it apart to come up with an absurd "hobo fix". The woman spent most of her time complaining that it was all Korg's fault for not having the part. Abysmal.
