Classic Violins

I am a part-time professional violinist. Recently, I took my 31-year-old violin there this month for a long overdue cleaning and upgrade on accessories. This instrument is my pride and joy, so I wanted to make sure it was in expert hands. I was very pleased when Stephanie took the time to listen to my questions and then bring one of the violinmakers over to look at the violin. He made recommendations for cleaning, adjustments, and the right kind of new accessories, and he made sure I understood his advice. They also did a beautiful job identifying and fixing a crack in my bow tip that I didn't know existed. The work was done two days sooner than they estimated, and my violin looks and sounds better than ever. They follow COVID protocols and were masking in the shop, for which I was grateful. I am delighted with the expert skill, fair pricing, and great customer service at Classic Violins!

I attempted to rent a full size cello for private lessons, but I decided to call before I came in person. The lady on the phone was rude. There was an unwillingness to assist. She rushed me off the phone before asking, why I didn’t have a license and how old was I for not having a Drivers License at this time, after advising to her of my state ID and CC that’s readily available. She then unpleasantly said the price as if it would scare me away.. I’m glad I didn’t do business with them, especially with such rude/improper customer service. Taking my business else where. 0/10 - do not recommend Post reviewing this company, they didn’t offer to make my experience better in any way.. it’s sad. Good customer service shouldn’t be something you as a customer, have to beg to for. I wish them the best too! And I want better for people like myself that play (Black). That’s why I’m providing feedback.

Wonderful experience. I have a 25 year old student violin that has been through a lot in its life. My sound post had fallen and I just wanted it reset. I knew the violin would need a lot of work, but for the work it needs, it would be more economical to purchase a new one. The luthier was kind, reset my sound post and talked me through the likely next step for a violin. If I get to the point that I am playing up to par, I would definitely purchase a violin from them!

Within the past year, I’ve purchased both a new violin and a new bow from Classic Violins. In addition, I’ve taken my instruments there for repair and service numerous times, and I’ve never been disappointed. The service is consistently exceptional. I always enjoy my conversations with the staff, who are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. We’re lucky to have such a fine establishment in Mundelein, and it’s a privilege to support them 100%!
