My 12 year old daughter, 7th grade, has been playing trombone for a year and a half and started on the beginner level trombone. This year, she was picked to play in the Honors band (the only trombone player picked from her school), jazz band, and perform a solo (which she wrote on her own) at her concert. Her instructor recommended that she move up to the intermediate trombone that she received yesterday and absolutely loves it. I immediately could tell a difference between the two. I don't know anything about music and Lauren help me understand everything. She was very patient with me after calling her about 5 times. My daughter is going to rock her Honors concert tomorrow. Thank you Lauren and Meyer Music my daughter has an absolute passion for music because of the quality of your instruments. Keep up the great work with these young students. Jason

Mar 22, 2025 · Jason FrancisThis past week, a couple of keys on my daughter's flute became loose and we started to panic because it was three days before the state solo & ensemble festival. When we went to Meyer Music, we were expecting to have to leave her flute there, which we have had to do in the past, and use a loaner flute. When they heard the competition was only three days away, they took the time right then and there to fix her flute, so she was all set for solo & ensemble! We were so happy that they took the time to do this for us! Being able to use her own flute, now repaired, made my daughter feel so much better heading into the festival. Highly recommend Meyer Music in Kalamazoo!
Mar 16, 2025 · Janine BorlingDo not fall for the "school payment credit" scam where Meyer Music says you can apply any monthly payments to the purchase of an instrument when your rental period is complete. I had $1,348 in credits, so went to Meyer Music to see what I could apply that to for purchase. First, you are ONLY allowed to purchase band instruments (no bongos/drums, etc.). I was told the cheapest instrument they had for sale was a used Yamaha flute for $2,775 (+$166.50 tax) = $2,941.50. They could then apply my $1,348 in credit, for a remaining balance of $1,318.50. From there, they gave me 40% off, so my final payment for the flute would be $791.10. I asked why it was so expensive, and was told "prices got nuts after COVID". I wanted to make good use of my "credit", so went ahead and bought the flute. After realizing my family had no interest in taking up the flute, I attempted to sell it for $1,200 (less than half the full price - what a deal for someone...). After many low ball offers around $500, someone finally informed me that you can buy the same flute BRAND NEW for $1,200 (which I was able to confirm). I was really confused, and thought maybe Meyer Music made a mistake when selling me the flute. I went into the store with the flute, and was immediately told "All sales are final" before I could get through my explanation. They said the charges were correct. I asked why they would value the used flute at $2,775, and was informed that it would have typically cost $1,800 (still way too much), but because I was buying it as part of an instrument return/credit, $975 was added. I asked why, and was told for all the maintenance, etc. required during the rental (although my daughter never had to take her saxophone in for any type of service over two years). Meyer Music offered to buy the flute back from me, and after 15 minutes in the back room, they came back WITH AN OFFER OF $400!!!! In summary, my awesome $1,348 credit enabled me to pay another $800 for a used flute that I ended up selling for $700 total. This process is a very unethical business practice - no mention of added fees when Meyer Music is presenting to the schools, enticing parents to rent and take advantage of this program. My recommendation would be to just buy a used instrument online and avoid doing business with Meyer Music. Photos attached for reference.
Jan 08, 2025 · k9lynesMeyer Music is the best!! They make everything easy as it pertains renting a musical instrument. My son was able to try several different saxophones as he was making a decision for a step up saxophone. They helped him with his decision process, he couldn’t be happier. Big shout out to the Kalamazoo store and thank you Lauren, your help was very much appreciated.
Dec 21, 2024 · Cathy FitznerI decided to give Meyer Music a try after having some frustrating experiences with the service at another, more local, business. The difference was night-and-day. I just started practicing again in my late 30's after not having picked up an instrument since middle school. I bought a used YAS-23 and completed a full overhaul myself last year, but I've recently starting having issues and didn't have the time to do the work myself. I brought the instrument into the local business and their tech was professional but also dismissive of most things I had to say and didn't provide any information other than the itemized list of work they felt the instrument required. They stated that I needed to have at least four pads replaced (one had come loose but the rest seemed fine), and recommended that I actually do a full re-pad because of the way I had installed the pads myself. Someone recommended that I try Meyer Music, so I stopped in the next week and was blown away by the service. The tech Michael was able evaluate the instrument during my visit and took the time to come to the front of the store and have a substantial conversation with me about what he felt it did (or didn't) need. He spoke to me at my level and took the time to explain different options and his opinions, but I never felt like he was pushing me towards something I didn't need. The work required ended up being much less than what the other business quoted, and they took just over a week to complete the work and I was very impressed with the result. Once again Michael took the time to come out and explain all of the work he did as well as some things to monitor. Overall, I give my experience a 10/10 and would recommend their tech service to anyone.
